How are you on Kirk knowing the name Barsoom as an old nickname for Mars? It's not Trek canon, but I figure the colonists who go to Mars will include fanboys who call it that sometimes.

It seems logical. And as an extension of movie canon, which is where Tars is from, both Dejah & Tars are aware of Ned's writings and how popular they were. (Ned being Edgar Rice Burroughs in the film.)
